Giving For Joy: 5 Reasons That Inspire

Donate Food through Holachef

Robin Hood Army: Distribution of Holachef food in Thane – Mulund area.

There’s so much happiness in giving. Be it your time, affection, a smile or something that can be wrapped in a box. Translating our thoughts into action and involving you and many others with something that is close to our heart, we are trying to reach out and spread some joy. On 8th December,  for any order that you place on Holachef  with the code GIVINGFORJOY, we will donate a meal on your behalf to the less fortunate through Robin Hood Army and to the slums in Andheri (E).

Acts such as these cannot be quantified but certainly can be enormously fulfilling. Here are some reasons that help us reach in while we reach out.

Humanity: Humanity is considered a religion in itself. We evolve by helping each other and caring for others, based on the simple fact of humanity. Humans can only help and reach out to fellow being by understanding their needs. We are after all born in a community to fulfill a goal of living together happily and making this world a better place to live in.

Satisfaction: There is a robotic routine, day-in and day out, throughout the year which brings a sense of achievement, surely. But nothing matches up to the feeling of satisfaction that the joy of giving brings. The feeling that somebody’s life just got better because of a small act of kindness will melt your heart. Even if it means feeding the hungry for one day, it will be a day etched in your memory throughout your life.

Kindness: To quote Dalai Lama, “My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.” Being kind doesn’t take much efforts. Kindness hides itself in the smallest of acts that you might think are negligible. Whether it is donating clothes to the homeless or spending a day spreading cheers around them, no act of kindness goes unnoticed, however big or small it is. A step towards trying to make someone’s life better, is enough to set the ball rolling. And it is believed that kindness is a chain reaction!

Goodwill: Every day people wish the world to get better and  even if it is inch by inch, there is certainly a steady movement. Societies have often helped each other in testing times erasing all boundaries and differences only to evolve as finer societies. The wish to give a part of what you have can be a great example of excelling as a person. Whether it’s surprising a stranger at a cafe by paying his bills or buying lunch for a poor fellow, the smalls acts are examples of growing well from within.

Joy and Happiness: Of the many instances that shower happiness on us, the one derived out of  sharing is perhaps the most gratifying. Why keep away from any opportunity of giving when the act will offer eternal joy more than anything else. A good deed is a sign of being grateful for what you have in life while also sharing it with those who seldom see joys. To quote Eleanor Roosevelt, “Happiness is not a goal, it’s a by-product of a life well lived.”

On December 8, Holachef aspires to make you a part of something we truly believe in – Giving For Joy. Go ahead, your order today is priceless.

An Independence Day Well Spent

Today was a wonderful day for us! As a young team, we had wanted to do something vibrant for Independence Day celebration. We started planning really late, only around 8th of August. So every idea that came up had to be workable in very little time that we had. So after a crazy week at our extremely loud and crowded office, here’s what we managed to do. It was exciting to see that this National Festival was the first time that our team not only put up a stellar show but also squeezed in a small party in the office amidst all the craziness.

As clichéd as it sounds, they say pictures speak a thousand words. So here’s what happened for Independence Day at Holachef!

We hosted the first ever virtual food-fest for regional Indian food! From Punjab, Sindh, Gujrat, Maratha to Dravid, Utkal, Banga to Rajasthan, Kashmir, Nagaland!

We served some delicious cuisine from North East – not so easily available around Mumbai!

We reminded everyone that freedom is sweet!

We supported Robin Hood Army in their awesome initiative to serve 100K meals across India and Pakistan!

And then, our amazing delivery crew decided to share the festive cheer in the most heartwarming way – and it’s worth mentioning that this happened of their own accord!

We had some sweets on the house for ourselves with a wonderful tricolored joy spread all over our office! An independence-day-inspired game of pictionary was played too; that we drew Dandi March to explain Lathi Charge is a different matter all together!

To think of it, last year at this time we only existed on paper. In fact, in September 2014 – we were a team of 5. What followed is a beautiful conspiracy! And we have only just begun

The best things in life are meant to be shared.

A thought that we, at Holachef, closely believe in apart from our love for great food and the desire serve hearty meals to everyone we can reach. All this is possible because of our stellar chefs who are consistently trying to bring the world on your plate.

We felt that while we cater to palates that are forever-evolving in taste and desire, there are some who find happiness and satisfaction in simple, warm, nourishing meals.

When we connected with Robin Hood Army and discovered the amazing work they had been doing with street-dwellers in Mumbai, we knew we wanted to be a part of their wonderful story. The Robin Hood Army is a group of over 500 friends and colleagues who work across India and Pakistan for providing food to the less fortunate. Every night a total of almost 5000 hungry people across 14 cities in India like Delhi, Noida, Mumbai, Bangalore, Jabalpur and more are fed by volunteers of the Robin Hood Army.

Every Sunday, Holachef will be contributing freshly made meals comprising of dal rice / khichdi to the Robin Hood Army for distribution among the less fortunate who have made Mumbai streets their home.

On 26th July 2015, we made our first contribution and it brought smiles to so many faces – it was heartwarming. We would like to think the Robin Hood Army for facilitating this wonderful initiative and each of our patrons for they contribute to this initiative with every order placed on Holachef.

Originally, surplus food from restaurants is collected by volunteers of Robin Hood Army and distributed among the poor and the hungry. A simple, thoughtful and wonderful concept indeed. They do not accept monetary donations and simply need your time, as they state.

With a goal of eliminating hunger, they are always welcoming of more volunteers, restaurants that want to contribute and residential societies that would like to get involved. Their decentralised model of self-sustenance is quite simple and can be followed easily too.
