An ode to Mumbai’s Food & Culture
By Devaki Athalye
Speedy trains run and people moving in crowds
Taste of new adventure, the life’s loud
Through a roller coaster of dreams and goals
A unique culture dwells in their hearts and souls
The skyscrapers share their vibes
The zest and the spirit this city imbibes
Up and down, toss and turn, every time a new role
A unique culture dwells in their hearts and souls.
This unique culture is a perfect blend of the words ‘quick, tasty and budget!’ Yes, the city of Mumbai, which is a home to millions of immigrants from all over the country, has a unique culture like every other Indian city!
Delving through the cinema and art, touring around its timeless history, experiencing the street shopping with a cup of cutting chai and vada pav! #TrulyMumbai
Mumbaikars are passionate foodies. The culture of Mumbai is rather sketchy without the account of its food. Vada Pav, Pav Bhaji, Pani Puri, Misal have a loyal following. The flavors of onion bhajiyas especially when it’s pouring, sandwiches, dosas, frankies and juices charm the identity of Mumbai. The kebabs, the falooda, the fish curry, the prawns, and the samosas are savored and relished all over the city.
The kulfis, Chinese bhel, the omelettes, the sizzlers, the ice gola, the ragda pattice, the butter chicken grace the gastronome’s tummy.
Despite the elite and five star hotels decking the streets of Mumbai, the street food of Mumbai remains a hot favorite choice of the people here. It is the taste, easy availability and the affordability that makes it so unanimously popular. Mumbaikars, irrespective of the religion, ethnicity or any other barrier are zealous about this street food!
Thus, it is rightly said that you have to taste a culture to truly understand it!
