A tête-à-tête with Chef Rachna Prasad

1. Tell us about yourself!

I was born and raised in Patna. I moved to Delhi later for a course in Fashion Designing from NIFT although I knew cooking was my true calling!

I once spotted a newspaper ad placed by Taj Mansingh Hotel for a position in Food & Beverage. I applied and got the job; and thus began my culinary journey. I learned a lot under Chef Bhatnagar at Taj Mansingh and he continues to inspire me to-date. Cooking is my first love although I enjoy painting, driving, writing poems, art & craft, singing, dancing and spending lots of quality time with my two adorable kids and family.

2. Do you remember the first time you cooked?

I have been cooking since I was 14. At that time, my mother’s cooking style influenced me a lot. I remember the first breakfast I cooked for my family was a Spanish omelet with garlic bread and potato wedges. Everyone loved it and that still holds a special place in my heart.

3. What is the best part about cooking?

Cooking, for me, is a stress buster. It inspires me and keeps me charged the whole day. It has given me an identity of my own.

4. What do you enjoy cooking the most?

I am a big foodie so I enjoy varied tastes. Indian cuisine with lots of aromatic spices is possibly my most favorite! I like to cook Indian dishes and specially enjoy making different varieties of biryanis.

5. What is the best compliment you have received for your cooking?

Someone who had tasted my food complimented me by calling me a ‘Biryani Queen’ and a ‘Diva’ of Indian food!

6. What do you do in your free time?

I like to watch food shows on TV or read up on various recipes. Sometimes I paint too!

7. Do you enjoy cooking for HolaChef? Why?

Of course I do! HolaChef is a great platform for me to spread magic with food every day! I work on a different menu each week and that gives me a lot of variety to cook from!

8. What is the best thing about cooking for HolaChef?

Through HolaChef I have been able to connect with many foodies who appreciate what I make! It’s a platform for me to spread joy through my cooking.


9. Have you tried food from HolaChef (made by another chef?)

Yes I have and I recommend it to everybody – not because I am part of it but because HolaChef has a team of great chefs.
