What inspired you to become a chef? Tell us your story!
My foray into cooking/baking professionally was not really a planned affair. I started out because I got many requests from friends to bake cakes for their special occasions. Doing this made me happy and rest as they say is history. I did take up a professional baking course since I felt I needed to hone those skills. Cooking is something I have been doing since the age of 6, I recall standing on a stool and making dosa under my mom's supervision. I believe if one chooses something that makes them happy as a profession, it's more full filling and rewarding, Food makes me happy. Building flavours is an exciting and heady affair that I love indulging in.
Which celebrity chefs do you admire the most?
I am huge fan of Marco Pierre White, its inspiring to see him or read about him. I love desserts and am a big fan of Adirano Zumbo, his work is fun and quirky. Chef Mehrotra from Indian Accent and Chef Ritu Dalmia from Diva are few of the many Indian chefs that I admire.
What do you do in your free time?
I love reading, I'm a movie buff and enjoy theatre a lot.
Do you like to travel? What are your favorite travel destinations?
I love to travel. Delhi is a favourite food destination and Coorg is my favourite spot to spend some leisure time. I prefer eco stays, BnB's and home stays since I feel these are the best ways to explore the culture and food of that place.
Have you tried food from Holachef? How was your experience?
We order food from Holachef often and it's always been a satiating experience.
Which dishes do you love to cook and why?
Whatever I like to eat is the thing I love to cook. I love eating rice, dal and fish as much as I love cooking it. I love cooking different types of biryani too.
A cooking tip that you always follow.
Always go with less salt, since you can add more at any point, but cannot take it out of the dish.
What's your favorite kitchen tool?
Spoon. I love tasting food as am cooking.
When it comes to food and cooking, what is your greatest achievement to date?
I think without a doubt, being able to churn out 1500 cupcakes with my limited resources has been a great achievement.
What is that one ingredient you cannot cook without?
When it comes to meals, it'll be chicken and when I think about desserts, I'd go with chocolate.
What would one expect to find in your refrigerator?
There are always some fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs (I love them) and eggs.
Which quality should a person definitely possess in order to become a professional chef?
One should be open to hard work, have an understanding of flavours and be willing to accept feedback.
